Girl, who taught you how to move like that?
At this pace your at you're going way to fast.
I, I saw you from across the room
It's me versus every guy it's your choice you choose.
I've got friends in highly low places
It's been a long time, it's been a long time
and maybe baby you can rise above the rest and meet me yeah
Whoa oh whoa whoa oh
Why do I put myself in these situations
Whoa oh whoa whoa oh
I keep pushing myself even though I can't take it at all

Metric - Gold Gun Girls
All the gold
And the guns
In the world
Couldn't get you off
All the gold
And the guns
And the girls
Couldn't get you off
All the boys
All the choices
In the world
I remember when we were gambling to win
Everybody else said better luck next time
I don't wanna bend like the bad girls bend
I just wanna be your friend
Is it ever gonna be enough
Is it ever gonna be enough?

Andrew Bird - Measuring Cups
Get out your measuring cups and we'll play a new game
Come to the front of the class and we'll measure your brain
We'll give you a complex and we'll give it a name
Get out your measuring cups and we'll play a new game
Can't have the cream when the crop and the cream are the same
Liquid or gas no more than the glass will contain
I think they're gonna make you start over
You don't want to start over
Put your backpack on your shoulder
Be the good little soldier
Take your places now
'Cause we're all predisposed
Oh Oxford.

Jay Brannan - Half-Boyfriend
You’re the pill I never wanted to take—
an anti-misanthrope
mine was the heart I never thought you would break
my one hope was that I’d survive you
I’ve shown up for you
in ways that boy never would
but I know you’ll go back to him and
maybe you should, but
I hope you don’t go backwards
cuz I’m going on ahead and
one day you’ll wish that you had
stuck with me instead.
You know every once in a while when you come across a song that you swear you'd written in your head way before you even heard said song? This is one of those. By the time I realized its significance, though, this song was entirely irrelevant to me.

Obadiah Parker - Hey Ya! (Outkast Cover)
This song has so much more meaning in acoustic form.
Hey ya.

Steve Goldberg and the Arch Enemies - Things I Used to Know
The play of the moon on the skin of the lake
the song of the birds that would nudge us awake
the lay of your hair and the curve of your face
oh, the things I used to know
why can't I keep them here with me?
I see them still like last night's dreams
and what becomes of the memories
when we stop remembering?

Matt and Kim - Daylight
we cut the legs off of our pants
threw our shoes into the ocean
sit back and wave through the daylight
sit back and wave through the daylight
slip and slide on subway grates
these shoes are poor mans ice skates
fall through like change in the daylight
fall through like change in the daylight
and in the daylight we can hitchhike to maine
i hope that someday i’ll see without these frames
and in the daylight i don’t pick up my phone
cause in the daylight anywhere feels like home

Bright Eyes - Going For the Gold
And though I know that my actions are impossible to justify,
they seem adequate to fill up my time.
And if I could talk to myself like I was someone else
well then maybe I could take your advice.
And I wouldn't act like such an asshole all the time.
There's a film on the wall,
makes the people look small
who are sitting beside it
all consumed in the drama.
They must return to their lives
once the hero has died
they will drive to the office
stopping somewhere for coffee
where the folk singers, poets, and playwrights convene
dispensing their wisdom,
oh dear amateur orators.
they will detail their pain
in some standard refrain
that will recite their sadness
like it's some kind of contest.
Well if it is,
I think I am winning it,
all beaming with confidence
as I make my final lap
the gold medal gleams
so hang it around my neck;
cause I am deserving it--
the champion of idiots.
But a kid carries his Walkman on that long bus ride to Omaha,
I know a girl who cries when she practices violin.
'Cause each note sounds so pure
it just cuts into her
and then the melody comes pouring out her eyes.
And now to me everything else,
it just sounds like a lie.

Jack's Mannequin - bloodshot
Sits in his basement from midnight 'till four
Painting pictures that nobody sees
From his days in the war
The canvas is painted bright red, red
He heats up the shower
He paces the hall
He'll scrub for an hour or more
But he wont get it all
The paint in his fingernail beds
And the hill's still left to climb
It's just so high
And I'm so tired
Come on look me in my bloodshot eyes
The clouds are all on fire
It's just so high
And I'm so tired
Come on look up at the bloodshot sky
The clouds are all on fire
The clouds are all on fire
Someone will understand this.
My eyes have been pretty bloodshot lately.

Ben Folds- Rockin' the Suburbs
I got shit runnin' throught my brain
It's so intense that I can't explain
All alone in my white-boy pain
Shake your booty while the band complains
Rockin' the suburbs
Just like Jon Bon Jovi did
I'm rockin' the suburbs
Except that he was talented
I'm rockin' the suburbs
I take the cheques and face the facts
That some producer with computers fixes all my shitty tracks
In a haze these days
I pull up to the stop light
I can feel that something's not right
I can feel that someone's blasting me with hate
And bass
Sendin' dirty vibes my way
'Cause my great great great great Grandad
Made someones' great great great great Grandaddys' slaves
It wasn't my idea
Never was my idea
Jjust drove to the store
For some Preparation-H
Ya'll don't know what it's like, bein' male, middle-class and white.

Keane - Pretend That You're Alone
I wonder what I'd do
If I could wake up every morning
With a clean slate
I'd burn through the cities,
I'd tear through the towns
Cos there's no deals to make
So break out of the cages,
The delicate structures
We cling to all our lives
Cos we are just the monkeys
Who fell out of the trees
When we were trying to fly

Forgive Durden - I've Got A Witch Mad At Me And You Might Get Into Trouble
Consider this your fair warning
There's no turning back now
You're leaving your
Blanket of cleansed gospel
For the smut of vicious truth
You won't need your wool coat
Because out there the sun beats through
So interlock your fingers with mine
And squeeze tight
Stay close behind
We haven't much time
So I'll cut to the quick
We'll burn the midnight oil

Anberlin - Breaking
Do you collect the souls you've lost
In the top of your dresser drawer?
Count the number of tears displaced
On lonely bedroom floors
Where the shape of your heart once was
Slowly takes the place of you
Will they hold the memories now
Of the love I though I knew
You make breaking hearts look so easy
Seems like you've done this before
You've got breaking hearts all but down
And you've done this, you've done this before
You make stealing hearts look so easy
Where is the girl I adore
You've got breaking up all but down
I can't love a thief anymore
Tonight, I wished that you won't break my heart.

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls
Sometimes I say stupid things
That I think
Well, I mean I
Sometimes I think the stupidest things
You girls never know
Oh no, you girls'll never know
No you girls never know
How you make a boy feel
Do you know? I don't think so. But then again, you just might.

Jukebox The Ghost - Hold It In
A brilliant, frank insight into the absurdities of those awkward, blissful years when you straddle the line between childhood and adulthood and the I-like-her-does-she-like-me game that we've all played, wrapped up in a catchy beat and some wicked piano. These guys are the best piano rock I've heard in a while. They're moving up on several of my lists.
Baby I'm in love and maybe it's not to tell
Only thing that I can do is hold it in, hold it in
I was told that I'm a man now and I'm not allowed to cry
The only thing that I can do is hold it in, hold it in
Life is "Oh my God, if I tell him, he'll tell her, and then she will know I like her!"
Good grief! I don't think that I can take this heartbreak any longer
I will not hold it in.
Enjoy.

The Orion Experience - Obsessed With You
From the gov study party today with Lisa and Cameron. Haha.
Your smile sets my heart aflame.
Electrocute me with your eyes.
The very mention of your name,
My stomach fills with butterflies.
Your love is better than cocaine
I need you more than oxygen.
Oh God I've got it bad again,
An o-b-s-e-s-s-i-o-n.
I want to get next to you.
Yeah I love all the things you do.
I want to get close to you.
You are my dream come true.
I want to have sex with you.
Your sweet caress won't do.
Cause I'm obsessed with you.
Yeah I'm obsessed with you.
Cameron, your reaction was the best.

Shout Out Louds - You Are Dreaming
Lisa made me start listening to these guys again. I missed them. This is one of my favorites, both musically and lyrically. I mean, just look at these:
Say what you say, I am listening, I am all ears
But if you still believe I'm thinking of you
you're dreaming, yes you're dreaming
Where were you when they sold their house?
I was stuck in a conversation about going out
oh no, a cigarette can't cover up the mess I'm in
But it makes me feel less lonely, again and again
Anyways, this one is for Lisa :)

The Killers - Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straights Cover)
This makes two posts in one day, but I came across the original on tumblr and pondered which was better, ultimately deciding on the Killers version. Brandon Flowers' voice seems to work better. Plus, it sorta goeswith Valentine's Day.
Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet, and you exploded in my heart
And I forget, I forget.. the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?
...
Well, you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah
Now you just say, "Oh, Romeo, yeah, you know
I used to have a scene with him"

Regina Spektor - Real Love (Lennon/Beatles ‘95 Cover)
Happy Valentines Day!
All my little plans and schemes
Lost like some forgotten dream
Seems like all i really was doing
Was waiting for you.
